“It Helps Create an Environment Where People Want to Work”

We ask Jeff Green, the head of process and performance at Shell, how investing in Ergotherapy chairs for employees has improved productivity and happiness.

As head of process and performance at Shell, Jeff Green is responsible for ensuring employees are provided with the right set of conditions at work to empower their productivity and wellbeing. After identifying multiple, recurring challenges his team was facing in terms of comfort and morale – mostly associated with prolonged sitting and working in a static position – he decided to invest in Ergotherapy’s ergonomic office chairs. We asked him to tell us about the impact this shift has had on the working environment.


How has the introduction of Ergotherapy chairs changed your team’s workday?

The work experience has improved. The fact that there are multiple options specifically when it comes to the chairs means that the required type of support can in most instances be provided. For example: high back chairs, mid back support chairs and so on.


Have you observed measurable improvements in productivity or efficiency since the introduction of Ergotherapy chairs?

We don’t measure productivity in terms of man hours spent at a desk but what is observed is that with a full suite of products, the overall work experience improves, for example with the right chair, laptop stand support and desk, it is possible to work for longer periods of time without the need for regular breaks. The actual work experience simultaneously improves which is equally as beneficial as any improvement in productivity.

Have you noticed any changes in team morale or general well-being?

Yes – in my instance this is the third or fourth chair that I have used over the last number of years. It is extremely rewarding to be able to sit in a chair which you know is a quality product and that provides the requisite type of support.

With ergonomics playing a critical role in long-term health and performance, how have Ergotherapy chairs helped in reducing physical strain or discomfort for your team?

Excellent question. In today’s office-based work environment, health and wellness is a critical component of any employee value proposition for any employer. To be able as part of an EVP share that the actual working space is of a certain calibre is extremely helpful. Employees want to work in an environment which has provided thought to their working space.


Can you share any specific examples or feedback from team members about how the chairs have positively impacted their workday or life beyond the office?

The most obvious is in people who then procure these products for their personal space. I personally have a chair which I use at home

From a business perspective, how has investing in ergonomic chairs contributed to your team’s efficiency and success?

As above, in multiple ways, predominantly because it helps create an environment where people want to work.


Would you recommend Ergotherapy chairs to other teams or companies looking to improve their workspace? If so, what would you say is the key benefit?

Absolutely. I would say multiple benefits including quality of product, ease of service – procuring a product is simple and any after sales support is readily available and very professional, cost – the product is extremely competitively priced for what it is.


In your view, how does prioritising comfort and well-being in the workplace translate into better performance and a more positive work environment?

Improved productivity for starters. I think it also shows staff that the company values their health, wellness and safety.


How has the process of working with Ergotherapy, from product selection to delivery and setup, supported your team’s experience with the chairs?

Outstanding – it is a seamless and very professionally run organisation. Help is available when needed, no challenges when asking for after sales support, ability to service and repair products also mean they last longer. Sales support is excellent along with information on the product.
